Tired of searching and exploring the web to find a place that really gives you nothing but cool icons? I suggets to try this free service called IconFinder.![]()
Its name has spoken for itself of what it is exactly. Yes, it is a search engine built specifically to gather all the icons you want from across the web. Type email icon and you will get beautiful email icons free to use. Just remember to read each license before you start downloading.
IconFinder has a multitude array of stylish icons in its database. I was pretty impressed by the result it gave when I tried it several times to find folder and email icons.
It is very easy to use and fast. There is also a dashboard search widget allowing you to search the any icon you need at anytime directly from your desktop. Or, alternatively you can subscribe to its RSS to get updates of new icons.

QTTabBar: Add Tabs, Shortcut Keys, and More Features To Windows Explorer
QTTabBar is a must-download add-on for Windows explorer to give it many advanced abilities such as open and browse multiple folders within one single window, minimize explorer to tray, pop-up preview for images and text, launch application with customizable shortcut keys, and a lot more.
The main thing I love from this program is its tabbed-browsing. Thanks to this that now I can open and explore many folders in only one window just like what I usually do with Firefox when browsing the net. A folder can even be opened as a new tab by clicking it with the mouse wheel, or an existed tab can be cloned with a personalized shortcut keys. And instead of eliminating the ability to open a folder within a separate window, it lets you to make your own decision by making appropriate adjustment within its configuration panel.
What features does it offer beside the tabs? Many. The following are just a list of some functions:
- Tab and Toolbar Appearance - change the color, font of the title, size, title alignment, and apply image as background to tabs. For explorer toolbar, you can change the color and apply image for the background.
- Shortcut Keys - It seems that nearly all commands can be executed with custom shortcut keys that can be configured in its option panel. To create a new or change the existed key for a command, just highlight it and press the key combination you want to apply to like Ctrl+Alt+X or others. Make sure you have already put a check mark on the box to activate the key.
- Plug-ins - There are several plugins that can be downloaded for free as well at the author's website. When you integrate the plugins into the program, all the plugins commands will appear within the option panel located at the Shortcut Keys tab, ready to be executed by shortcut keys. You can also create a new plugin by downloading and using the plugin development kit offered by the author.
- Folder Groups - It lets you to put multiple folders into different groups. When a group is accessed, all the folders included will be opened simultaneously. Unfortunately, it appears that groups cannot be opened from the outside of the explorer's window. You have to open the explorer first before able to call a group.
- Subfolder Tips - subfolders can be previewed and explored by pressing the folder icon on tab or by optionally clicking the little arrow that appears when you're hovering mouse over a folder. You can choose to view both the subfolder and files contained within, or only the subfolders.
- Pop-Up Preview - a little preview window will appear every time you hover mouse over some text and image files.
- Application Launcher - drag an application to the toolbar to add it into the application launcher section to be able to launch it directly from the toolbar. Other files like text and images can also be added. A unique hotkey can be applied to each item listed as well. It lets you to add separator or categorize items in different folders, but you have to access the option window to do it.
- Other features - change view mode with Ctrl + mouse wheel in XP, tabs locking to prevent accidental closing or changing, make new folder with shortcut key (if you download and activate the CreateNewItemButton plugin), horizontal scroll with mouse wheel + Shift, clicking behavior management, and others.
Note that some of the functions listed above need to be configured first in the program's configuration window.
Unlike the previous version, the current one I review here manages to start faster. All the commands that are previously slow to load has already had better speed now as well. Don't forget the plugins. They provide quite a number of additional interesting functions as well.
I whole-hearted recommend it to anyone.
